| Tenancy by the EntiretyA special type of real estate ownership that is reserved for married couples. The law considers the marital unit to be the owner and both spouses have an equal, undivided interest in the whole. Both spouses have the right to enjoy the property, and when one spouse dies, the surviving spouse gets title to the property in the entirety. It is similar to joint tenancy with the right of survivorship, but it is a term that is only used in certain states.
